Several security issues were fixed in OpenEXR.

o openexr – tools for the OpenEXR image format

Details

It was discovered that OpenEXR incorrectly handled certain malformed EXR
image files. If a user were tricked into opening a crafted EXR image file,
a remote attacker could cause a denial of service, or possibly execute
arbitrary code.

Update instructions

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package
versions:

Ubuntu 18.04

o openexr – 2.2.0-11.1ubuntu1.7
o libopenexr22 – 2.2.0-11.1ubuntu1.7

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.

USN-4996-1 fixed several vulnerabilities in OpenEXR. This update provides
the corresponding update for Ubuntu 16.04 ESM.

Original advisory details:

It was discovered that OpenEXR incorrectly handled certain malformed EXR
image files. If a user were tricked into opening a crafted EXR image file,
a remote attacker could cause a denial of service, or possibly execute
arbitrary code.

Update instructions
